After an internship in internal medicine and a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Missouri, Dr. Baddigam completed his medical training with a fellowship in pain medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. This broad training program allowed him to extensively study many pain-related topics in medicine, including interventional procedures, therapeutic implants, acute pain management, cancer pain, and multidisciplinary methods.
Dr. Baddigam began his medical career as a clinical research associate at the Mid-America Heart Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. There, he contributed to important cardiovascular research. His first position as a pain management physician was at the Pain Clinic of Northwestern Wisconsin, in Eau Claire. There, he performed cervical procedures, discography, radiofrequency ablation, and surgical implant techniques. He held a similar position at Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, Wisconsin prior to moving to North Carolina in 2009. In Charlotte, he served as a consulting physician at Carolina Bone & Joint, a multidisciplinary office with specialists in orthopedic surgery, pain management, and rheumatology.
Recently, he has been a staff physician at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina. There, he has performed general anesthesiology as well as pain management. In addition to basic surgery cases, he also performs anesthesiology for high-risk vascular and cardiothoracic procedures. His pain management practice is focused on interventional procedures with an emphasis on spine care and the management of acute and chronic neck and low back conditions.
In addition to his extensive experience treating patients, Dr. Baddigam is also a contributing member of his field and community. He has participated in research on the treatment of withdrawal syndromes in cardiothoracic surgery patients. He also helped standardize medical record keeping in the surgical ICU at the University of Missouri. After completing his residency, he contributed to the education of future doctors by serving as a clinical instructor in anesthesiology. In addition, he has volunteered as an assistant medical officer bringing health care services and education to rural India.
Dr. Baddigam is licensed to practice medicine in Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin, Washington, and North Carolina. He is also a member of a number of professional organizations, including the North American Spine Society and the American Medical Association.

Anesthesiology is the practice of blocking pain, discomfort or distress during surgery or an obstetric or diagnostic procedure. An anesthesiologist is specially trained to plan, monitor and administer pain relief before and during an operation, and assess the patient’s condition and recovery afterwords. This specialist consults with patients for pain management, such as cancer patients, and those with critical illnesses or severe injuries.

An anesthesiologist is a physician who has had special training in pain management. A pain medicine specialist can be an anesthesiologist, neurologist, or other.
